PILATES

PILATES is a body conditioning method that works by targeting the deep postural muscles. This re-balances the body and brings it in correct postural alignment. It imporves body awareness and focus releasing tension as you exercises.
PILATES is a body conditioning method that works by targeting the deep postural muscles. This re-balances the body and brings it in correct postural alignment. It imporves body awareness and focus releasing tension as you exercises.

It has a slow controlled approach that makes it suitable for people with back problems, after injuries and for first time exercises. The exercises are very specific, predominantly mat based and are undertaken with supervision.

The key areas - where stability is required include not just the spine but also the pelvic and shoulder girdles. Both areas have important stabilising muscles attaching to them and provide platforms for your legs and arms to work properly.

What benefits do I get by training my 'core' stabilising muscles?

The main benefit is in making your movement patterns more efficient, and therefore reducing your risk of injury. You will also find that you will fatigue less rapidly, due to the increased efficiency of movement.

The other main benefits are improved co-ordination, balance and body alignment. These factors are very important in preventing injury, and in improving your self-confidence and movement awareness.
